Students with Rob Bartha

Jacob Penner
Jacob is a PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Robert Bartha. He received his Honours Bachelor of Sciences in Medical Physics at McMaster University. His project involves MR imaging and spectroscopy of Alzheimer's Disease. Jacob grew up in the small town of Aylmer, Ontario. He enjoys playing almost all sports, playing his guitar, camping, and spending time with his family. He and his wife have been married since June 2003 and have two beautiful boys to keep him busy!

Robert Ta
Robert is a second year Master’s student under the supervision of Dr. Bartha. He grew up in Mississauga, Ontario and received his honours bachelor degree in Life Sciences from Queen’s University. His current research interests are in developing new MRI contrast agents for the detection of Alzheimer’s Disease. When Rob is not doing research, he enjoys playing badminton, squash and the piano, despite his badminton and squash abilities not being up to par with Amy's skills (pending verification).

John Drozd

John is a Post-Doctorate fellow under the supervision of Dr. Bartha. He completed his PhD at the University of Western Ontario in the faculty of Applied Mathematics in Theoretical Physics (Computational Materials Science). He enjoys traveling, coding and eating Czech food. In his off time he hits the gym with his personal trainer.

John focuses on developing and validating new fully automated algorithms and implementing computer software for MRI image processing to detect structural changes in the brain that arise in the early onset of Alzheimer's disease. These include measuring changes over time in total intra-cranial brain volume, atrophy in brain ventricles and the hippocampus and quantifying the development of amyloid plaques. John is also involved in modifying MR spectroscopy software used in measuring metabolytes in brain volumes.

Congratulations are also in order for John as he received a Postdoctoral Fellowship Award from The Alzheimer Society!

Amanda (Amy) Khan
Amy is a new Master's student with Dr. Bartha. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Western Ontario in Health Sciences. She is taking over Sean's work measuring the rate of brain tissue atrophy from structural MRI in subjects with Mild Cognitive Impairment and Alzheimer's disease using data from the ADNI database. She will be focused on investigating further the different  atrophy rates of the subregions of the lateral ventricles. She is also working on stroke research in a rat model for the Heart and Stroke foundation.
