The leading cause of death in Canada and in the US as well as many European countries is cardiovascular disease.  Thus understanding the diseases and their effects have a profound impact on the general health and life expectancy of the population.  MRI and fMRI have been used in stroke studies to assess the effects of pharmaceuticals administered after stroke and to study brain plasticity.
