Mental Health
Twenty percent of Canadians will personally experience a mental illness at some point during their lifetime. There are no cures for mental illness, and current medications for the treatment of such diseases are greatly inadequate - at best, only reducing the severity of symptoms. To develop new and better treatments, research must pinpoint the regions of the brain involved in each illness and identify the underlying chemical imbalances that give rise to a particular set of symptoms.
Some of the neuropsychiatric disorders being studied using the facilities here at CFMM are Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Depression, Schizophrenia, and Bipolar disorder.
