Profile & Research Interests

I am a PhD student under the supervision of Dr. Robert Bartha. Alzheimer disease is the most common form of neurodegenerative dementia and progressively causes metabolic and structural changes in the brain that lead to symptoms of cognitive decline. My research is focused on the development of an automated segmentation tool for quantification of several brain structures in MRI images for early detection of Alzhimer disease. The development of automated techniques to quantify medial temporal lobe volume will provide a sensitive biomarker to track the earliest morphometric changes due to disease progression in AD. The volume changes in medial temporal lobe can be used to aid in identifying such individuals so that treatment can begin prior to significant tissue loss and functional decline. I would acknowledge my sources of funding including the Alzheimer Society and Western Graduate Research Scholarships.
